Hello 2016.

2015 was a big year for us, a new baby, a new job for Paul, maternity leave (and maternity pay) for me... So many changes it was a bit of a whirlwind. So I am starting 2016 feeling a little windswept and trying to get back a little bit of control and normality again, or at least to find a new normal.

My way of gaining control and getting organised is to make lists, some might call them resolutions, but I always feel like that word comes with connotations of failure. So lets just call them goals, things I'd like to achieve in 2016.

Our little family is pretty awesome, we have gotten into a good groove this past year. One thing I'd like to see more of in 2016 is family fun days, I'd like us to go out once a week as a family. It doesn't have to be something expensive or extravagant; trips to the park, grab a coffee and wander in town, playdates at the centre for life. In 2015 me and Zoe did lots of exciting things together during maternity leave, but I'd like to get Paul in on the fun too.

Maternity pay was brutal, but no where near as brutal as childcare costs. 2016 is going to have to be the year of serious frugality, I need to chip away at some debts I stupidly let pile up and try and stay afloat while counting down to free childcare hours in 2018. I'm also going to try and have a serious declutter and sell, and try and come up with some creative ways to bring in a bit more cash. Which is why you may see a couple of ads appearing here soon, as soon as I can figure out how adsense works.

Since I fell pregnant with Zoe I have lost a whopping 4 stone, mostly down to the wonder of breastfeeding, but I also did slimming world for a while. Now I am no longer breastfeeding I am determined not to see the scales creeping back up so I am setting myself some fitness goals. I'd like to start running again, I'd like to feel strong and healthy and be a good role model for Zoe. I do plan on eating healthily too, but my focus is more on health than getting caught up in numbers on a scale.

I can't think of an 'F' word for ... Blogging
I'd like to get back into blogging on a regular basis, I find this a great creative outlet and would like to see my little blog grow and see more people reading it. I am gradually finding my groove again transitioning from a food blog to a more parent/lifestyle/food/everything in-between blog. I want to get involved in the community more, that is my goal for 2016 - wish me luck.

So thats that, bring it on 2016, I'm ready for you.

  1. "F" word for blogging? Fantastic? :D I follow your blog. And once in a while when I'm online, I check what's in my reading list. Good to see your blogging again, just like me.

I'm more into "wishes" for the 2016, not exactly resolutions. I've reflected in my post "What's a Single's New Year's Wish?"

Happy new year! And happy blogging! :)

  2. I like the idea of wishes, although goals seems more achievable than wishes. Like I wish I would win the lottery but instead I'll set myself some financial goals lol xx

...nope... I tried, but no decent 'eff' word for Blogging - that's because it stands alone, as you remark, in being an outlet for just about everything...hmmm... a Font for our thoughts?

I think these are very sensible and achievable goals you have set, Nelly; as you rightly say, goals are gettable with a bit of self-application and adjustment to circumstances; wishes are a desire for something which requires no action from ourselves. Not that they are negative. For the whole world to wish for peace is a positive thing. However, world peace is only going to come about by folk acting out that wish.

....and I just realised I got the prompt for tomorrow's post at AVblog - thanks for the inspiration!

May 2016 bring all your goals to fruition. YAM xx
