I met Mary Berry!

I had a rather exciting week last week which started with going to the Living North show at Gosforth Racecourse. I had heard of the Living North show but never really thought of it as a foodie event, but boy was I wrong. A few weeks ago on twitter I saw the lovely Lauren talking about going to see Mary Berry and knew instantly that I HAD to get tickets.

As a fan of the Great British Bake Off and baking in general I really couldn't pass up the chance of seeing/meeting the queen of cakes herself, and actually watching her bake something! To say I was excited would be the understatement of the century....

I had met Lauren for the first time at Cake Club this month but she kindly offered me a lift to the event and we had so much fun trying all the samples in the foodie hall, and grabbing front row seats to the Mary Berry Demo. It was so much fun to go with a fellow baking obsessive and Mary Berry Fan Girl, huge thanks to Lauren (if you don't already you should read her blog).

Mary did not disappoint, what a class act she is, completely down to earth and surprisingly funny to boot! She started by cooking a Chicken dish which while being very easy looked and smelled amazing, I will be trying it out at home for sure. She then baked a lemon yoghurt cake which I got to sample at the end and was delicious (I will also be baking this one in the future). She ended with some cashew nut canapes.

As an experienced home cook/baker Mary had some invaluable pearls of wisdom to share, she offered advice on what to do if something goes wrong, entertaining guests, and cooking with children/grandchildren. She had the audience in the palm of her hand the whole time and I couldn't wipe the silly smile of my face for the whole demo.

We were first in line for book signing, I didn't have a Mary berry book to take with me so bought her latest one when I arrived. It was only £12 for ticket holders, an absolute bargain! I will definitely cherish this book for a long time.

My exciting week continued the following Tuesday when I was offered a new job! Those of you who follow me on twitter will know that I have been job hunting for a long time, and this week all my hard work finally paid off when I was offered the job I really really wanted. I don't think I have stopped smiling since!

Hopefully that explains the radio silence on the blog for the last two weeks, normal service will resume shortly.

    1. Thanks hun, it was fab to share the day with another foodie fan! We should have more cake related outings for sure.

Living North have put the recipe up on their website. I haven't had a chance to bake or cook anything from it yet, I am ashamed to say I've barely read it. So many books in the queue already. *hangs head in shame*
