If the name of my blog didn't give it away I am a bit of a cupcake obsessive, they really are the king of all baked goods and I just love baking and decorating these little beauties! I have a three tier wire veggie rack in my kitchen dedicated solely to various cake/bake related paraphernalia and the top tier is almost completely sprinkles.
I love baking for friends and family, nothing makes me happier than rocking up at someone's house with a few buttercream laden goodies to share over a cup of tea.
I really don't think there is any occasion that cupcakes can not add that special something to. New baby, wedding, christening, new house, new job, thank yous, or just to let someone know you appreciate them. (This would probably be a good time to mention that I have started accepting orders for my cupcakes, so if your local and need some cupcakes in your life; drop me an email)...
Last week I got a lovely email from Jo from Just Bake asking if I would be interested in doing a little review/sponsored post for their lovely new website.
I headed over to the link provided and was bowled over by the incredible cute design of the site, also just look at all of the cupcake goodies! I lost a good hour of my day making mental lists of things to buy when I get paid.
Here are a few of my favourites;
1. Red Polka Dot Cupcake Box - £1.40
2. Pink Stars Reusable Cupcake Wrappers - £7.95 (pack of 12)
3. Liv Cupcake Cases - £4.00 (pack of 20)
4. Green Dinosaur Sprinkles - £2.00 (50g pack)
This is just a fraction of the beautiful things they sell. It does seem that all of my favourite items are some of their priciest (isn't that always the way!). I would reccomend a trip to Just Bake even if it is just to drool over their selection of sprinkles.
They were lovely enough to send me a couple of little bits to try myself. They sent me the lovely white chocolate stars I used in my latest cupcake recipe.
I made these cupcakes on Friday, mainly because I had been having a really bad week and needed to spend some quality time with my kitchen. Also, I am heading over to a friends house on Saturday night for a bit of a girls night and I thought they would love something sweet.
I dubbed these my "You're a Star" cupcakes, they would be great for teacher gifts, or maybe for someone who has passed exams, or just generally been a star!
Now onto the recipe;
Orange Blossom Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream
225g Caster Sugar
225g Self Raising Flour
half a tsp Orange Blossom Water
Grated Zest of half an orange
Cream the butter and sugar together until smooth, creamy and pale.
Add the eggs one at a time, whisking as you go, until fully combined. If the mixture starts to split, add a tablespoon of your flour.
Add the sieved flour and fold until just combined.
Divide into cupcake cases (fill two thirds full)
Bake for 25 minutes at 180C (tops should be golden and springy to touch)
Let them cool completely and then top with buttercream, I used a Wilton 1M and opted for a small swirl in the centre, topped with sprinkles and a white chocolate star.
Just bake have also been kind enough to offer my lovely readers 10% off their online store if you spend £10 or more! Simply use the code "NELLY" at the checkout.
Code valid until 22/03/2012
Go forth and make beautiful cupcakes!
